My name is Alex Preisler and I am a junior. I took Mr. Bastin’s environmental science class last year but was unfortunately too busy to do the mmmilc internship that spring despite my interest in ecology and environmental issues. I would like to move onto a career which includes research and possibly an environmental aspect so I saw this internship as a great opportunity as an introduction these fields. Additionally I enjoy working with data and other people, so overall it seeded like it would be a fun and interesting experience.
My first day in the field was Saturday, March 20th and I went with three other participants in the project: Kyle T, Griffin D, and Scott S. I left my house (which is just down the street) around 5:00pm with the three of them and my dog to explore the site. We found the plant relatively quickly and soon after were able to start taking the data. Initially we were thrown off by the dead plant which grew right next to the milkweed but later distinguished the two as separate plants and took our measurements without much of a problem.
