This week, Morgan Mooney-McCarthy and I collected data from milkweed plants for 453 to 484. Much of the plants on this side of the ditch had not yet emerged. Those plants who had emerged, however, were very tall and lanky with multiple stems. The most exciting part of our trip was when we came upon a milkweed plant with two full grown caterpillars. After we had measured the plant we just sat and watched the little caterpillars for a bit. In the next few weeks I’m definitely hoping to see more caterpillars feeding on the plants.
