I was partnered with Maddie and Zach this week. Due to a wild academic schedule and a three-day athletic event, I had to observe through my partners. They claim it was unremarkable and gave me this picture of a plant (lower left). No monarchs, eggs or other, were spotted. This may be because the number of caterpillars on the plants is decreasing, or possibly because they just had a particularly dry tract. During my sporting event at Lake Natomas, I spotted a non-monarch caterpillar that I have not been able to identify. A helpful drawing (life-size) is included for reference below right. If anyone has ideas on what it could be, I would love to here them. I look forward to Week Seven, when the umbels I saw two weeks ago will hopefully have flowered. Good luck out there, monarch enthusiasts!
