My group and I went out into the field this week on Wednesday afternoon and found many of the plants we were assigned were not emerged while one or two were as tall as 16 cm. This was strange to us as the plants that were emerged were very close in proximity to those that weren’t. We were curious then about what factors might affect the growth of certain plants based on the location they’re planted in around Davis. An example we thought of was if some locations were farther away from the country roads, would that affect their water and sunlight intake or their exposure to certain pesticides? Other than that the collection was relatively uneventful with little to no monarch activity and few plants emerged the largest one being 272.
