This week Meg Ye, Emma Bridges, and I ventured to the ditch on Friday for the third week of data collection. The weather was warm following a wet period so we expected substantial growth from the previous week. We did note some larger plants with up to 10 stems however there were still several plants that have yet to emerge. We hypothesized that the amount of sunlight the plants are receiving could be affecting their growth as the smaller and not emerged plants are often under trees. The Milkweeds that have emerged were green and in good shape but we did not note any eggs on the leaves. All of the foliage in the ditch is growing rapidly including the peas and grasses that surround the milkweeds. This is making it a bit more difficult to find the plants themselves, especially the smaller ones. All three of us are looking forward to more warm weather and sun in the weeks ahead and hopefully even more growth.
